Ben Small

Director of Value Creation – Finance

Ben joined Saw Mill in 2024 and supports our management teams from acquisition through exit on finance-related, value creation activities.

Prior to joining Saw Mill, Ben served as CFO at (3) different, PE-owned companies in the design, distribution and manufacturing spaces, all resulting in successful exits.  He served in various finance roles at American Standard, most recently as VP & Corporate Controller where he was involved in the break-up of the Fortune 500 conglomerate (American Standard-Trane-WABCO) and subsequent acquisition by Bain Capital / Sun Capital of the bath & kitchen business. Ben’s other roles included Corporate Assistant Controller at Advance Publications (parent company of Condé Nast, Brighthouse Networks (now Spectrum), various newspapers and magazines) and was a manager in public accounting earlier in his career.

Ben has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an M.S. in Accounting from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business in NYC.  He is a CPA and has his Six Sigma Green belt certification.  He also served on the board of the Metuchen, NJ Board of Education for (4) consecutive 3-year terms.

Ben’s hobbies include being on the water and watching Boston sports teams.  He  also enjoys spending time with his wife, two rescue dogs, and two human daughters, too.
